People love their barbecues in the spring and summer, but there are problems with some of the fuels they use and how they use them.

Charcoal briquettes typically contain powdered charcoal, sawdust and up to 60% fillers, including anthracite coal from coal mines, limestone to create white ash, starch and borax for binding, sodium nitrate and a petroleum coating for quicker lighting.

Gas barbecues are convenient, but rely on a fossil fuel and do not provide a real wood-grilled flavor. Wood chips need to be added to compensate, but, even then, gas cannot reach the desired temperatures to properly sear meat and seal in natural juices.
