goodwood® firelogs Partners with American Forests; Donates Percentage of Sales to Global ReLeaf

WATSONVILLE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 7, 2004--For the month of December, Summit Views LLC, makers of goodwood® firelogs, is raising funds to plant trees in ecosystem restoration projects by donating 2% of sales from online purchases, direct customers and their distributors to the American Forests' Global ReLeaf program. American Forests is America's oldest national nonprofit citizen conservation organization.

"The roots of our work at American Forests are deep in the communities we serve all over America," said Greg Meyer, director of corporate relations of American Forests. "Whether it is planting trees to restore ecosystems damaged by wildfire, working with cities to reverse the decline in urban tree cover or instituting a Living Classroom project at a local school, everything we do is community based."

Summit Views does their part helping the environment by obtaining clean raw materials from wood mill operations, woodland and rural vegetation trimming businesses, transforming wood waste into a preferred fireplace and woodstove fuel. "We want to create a win for everyone involved -- take unwanted material that would go to waste, create a product that benefits our neighborhoods and communities, and take some of the proceeds to help mitigate other environmental damage," said Gregg Weissman, co-founder of Summit Views.

"Wood burning as an environmental problem is receiving more and more attention," said Jennifer Young, co-founder of Summit Views. "While not as great a threat as other pollution sources like equipment and vehicles that burn diesel fuel, there is something that can be done on an individual level about indoor and outdoor air quality. We're trying to do our part to help raise awareness about environmental issues surrounding wood burning and air quality, so people can have their wood fires and still do the right thing environmentally."

With winter burn bans in effect and environmental concerns on consumers' minds, being kind to the environment while enjoying a traditional wood fire at home seems impossible. goodwood firelogs, however, are an environmentally-preferable alternative that helps keep indoor and outdoor air cleaner, while still allowing consumers to enjoy the nostalgic feeling of a cozy wood fire.

goodwood firelogs emit up to 50% less soot and smoke than firewood, less acid rain chemicals and carbon monoxide, and are made from all-natural densified wood, without being fueled by wax. The result is an easy, cleaner burning wood fire with a reduced environmental impact.

About American Forests and Global ReLeaf Global

ReLeaf helps individuals, organizations, agencies and corporations improve the local and global environment by planting and caring for trees. Through Global ReLeaf trees are planted in urban areas and individuals are encouraged to plant trees around their homes and businesses. In less-developed areas, trees are planted in ecosystem restoration projects called Global ReLeaf Forests. These trees help clean the air and water, filter polluted runoff, slow global warming and erosion and provide habitat for wildlife.
